Very clever stuff.

I've just had a holiday in Jordan and Egypt and when you see the size of some of the stones that were moved it is incredible how it was done. Although we don't really know how it was done I recon that it was simpler than one would imagine.

I went to Ephesus in Turkey and there was a display of tools used to lift slabs and blocks, which consisted of a wedge block that was put into a square hole in the block. bits of wood were then put into the hole at the side of the wedge. When the wedge was pulled up it jammed in the square hole against the wood and lifted the block of stone. Another was a reverse scissor grab that held tighter as the load got heavier. These ideas are probably still used today.
