Evil Elvis
Does anyone know how much it costs to get a set of barrels re-blued? Ta?
twelvebore
I had a 20b done about six months ago. Estimate was £150 (inc VAT) but when it arrived at the gunsmiths they found that the top rib was loose so the job eventually cost me near £400. Remove rib, re-finish the barrels, re-lay rib, then blue the whole lot.

vole
Bloody hell.Is it easy enough to touch up bluing yourself? Is it done as part of a service done by a gunsmith?I was hoping to have a gun overhauled next year in terms of bluing etc but it sounds like it might nearly cost as much as the gun. twelvebore
Hi Guys, I went down the 'do-it-yourself' route so long ago I can't remember, probably 30 years back. Yes, you can patch up some lost blue, but the finish is 'bland' and you can still see the steel underneath. Also the repaired patches tend to wear away as soon as you put your gun into a sleeve. There's an old saying, 'a mean man pays twice' once for the bodge job and then for the professional work. If your guns need looking after, treat them properly and they'll last you for years.
