wymberley
Not a popular calibre I know, but by any chance has anyone run the Subject rounds over a chrono'?
wymberley
Looking forward to this. Another recent thread indicates that a tad over 100 ftlbs is sufficient to kill a fox cleanly. I'd checked the groups on 6 different cartridges plus their MV, but then had to pause. The new 22 Mag was set at my usual trigger pull: my wife could handle it as could everyone in the RFD, but the damned arthritis meant that on occasion I would let one go. Not good. Just got the rifle back from having the heavier two stage trigger installed. All now fine and ready to go again. My chrono makes perfect sense with the 22 Hornet, the BSA R10 177, the Webley Alecto and the 5 other 22 mag rounds and consequently I can see no reason why there should be a problem with the Subject cartridge. If the 100+ ftlbs is right then it seems that I have a 200 yard fox rifle. Nonsense. Attempting to head shoot a fox in the dark is non too clever and in less than ideal conditions, downright stupid for my money. 20 odd years ago when I last shot 22 mag, 120 odd yards with some 130 ftlbs with a 50gr Federal round in the engine room was the limit. I need to check again even though Oppo witnessed the proceedings as I'm theoretically 140ftlbs at 150 yards as the chrono is persistently giving 1964 instead of the advertised 1875ft/sec MV. We'll see.
Scully
I used to put CCI 40grainers through my .22 WMR Ruger M77. I never put any through a chronograph, just went out and used it. Rest assured, it will kill foxes within range with a very reassuring ‘thump’ down range. It’s a sound you’ll get to know well. 🙂

They changed it a while back, but then it was 2020 ft/sec at the muzzle. Yep, the 'thump' is unmistakable.
