JJaxeman
Optional extra it's a safety feature that all saw's should be fitted with I know all Stihl's are the cheaper one's in the range being moulded into the side casing. But not having one at all is dam rite dangerous. I would have a word with the place you bough it from. Good Luck PS regards the other saw it's the mixture settings on the carb is the problem as Peter said. All small two strokes should get adjusted once bedded in (from new) so that they run at thier best. This service is provided free on all Stihl's by Stihl service agent's hence the no internt sales policy they have.
loopy bunny blaster
no spikes? thats a bit stupid, they should NOT be an optional extra
myuserid
I know, its the only chainsaw I know of that has the spike as an optional extra. Even the very very cheap chainsaws have spikes. Husqvarna's are not cheap, it wouldn't take much for them to include the spike which would cost them around 50p to manufacture. I'm going to contact husqvarna directly and complain, will let you know how I get on.
paulf
What model No was it? The pro range all have spikes (dogs). Some of the smaller engines lack dogs on the bar cover but i thought all had the inner ones.
myuserid
Husqvarna 142 bought from world of power for £206, would have expected a spike as its not the cheapest chainsaw in the world, I know all stihl chainsaws have spikes so why not the husqvarna's. I have sent husqvarna an email to their main office, just have to wait and see now

paulf
No offence but the 142 is a very light domestic model made for cutting firewood and chopping bushes, not proper felling or long term use. i would sudgest you use it for now but when funds allow buy second hand either a husky 254, 357 or a stihl 026/036/361. As an ex forestry worker my everyday saw was a 254 with a 18" bar, a soild basic saw that never ever went wrong. At present i use stihls, the 026 and 036 mentioned both quality machines. Pete Thanks PM me a quote inc p&p, husqvarna got back to me and said "Thank you for your email, I will forward your comments to the factory." Well I could have purchased a similar stihl for around the £160 mark which included the bumper spike, so why cant husqvarna do that?? I bought this husqvarna as I cut down 5-8 trees per year and cut logs for the fire every other week, depending on how many trees have blown over!! So it seemed a waste of money spending £400-900 on a chainsaw, when this husqvarna can do the same job!

In actual fact if you pm me your email address I will be able to do it 1st thing in the morning (the forums are firewalled out) As for the Stihl for 160 - believe me, it isnt near as good as the 142. Stihl make some cracking saws, but when they make a cheap saw they make a CHEAP saw. The Husqvarna 137 & 142 are budget saws, they are not even made by Husqvarna, they are made in the USA by Poulan. The rest of the chainsaw range IS made in Sweden by Husqvarna themselves. Pete
myuserid
Ok, thanks for that. I'm not having much luck with this husqvarna either, the chain brake does not work and it leaks chain oil, so I'm sending it back for a husqvarna 340 with 18" bar. Its £120 more but hopefully worth it, as I dont like the fact that the 137&142 is made by another company and they dont have the bumper spike/felling dog. Thanks for your help anyway bbjunkie, its appreciated.
