S&W M&P 15 22 Red Dot sight

I have the above rifle, and at the moment, have a new standard type scope. I'm thinking of fitting a red dot sight on it. The rifle will be mainly used for a bit of target shooting on the farm.(steel gongs) Do you think this is a better idea? I'm not going to pay too much for one, I am thinking of the Hawke 1x30.

Red dots are great for gong plinking with the 15-22  quick on target both eyes open and you can shoot plenty far enough. 
 

I’ve use a eotech on mine (because got it cheap from a previous job) 

I’ve used it on a m4 and easily making hits at 300m on man sized target

UPDATE:

I've decided to go for the Hawke Endurance 1x30 (model # 15585) there are cheaper ones that will probably 'do the job' but I've always liked and used the Hawke range.

Update: I received the above red dot sight today, and as expected, I was very pleased with it. It will suit my needs.
