donkeymagic
Im looking to purchase a new rifle. Ive narrowed it down to either a Webley Longbow or BSA Single Shot Hornet. I have heard nothing but good reviews for both. I know the Hornet is more expensive, but which one do you think i should go for? Its going to be used for mainly huntig rabbit, crow and pidgeon. Thanks
byhsu
I myself prefer the springer, so would go for the Longbow in .22 Just need to cock it once and shoot. Very nice looking rifle, with a threaded barrel for the addition of a moderator.
Fisherman Mike
Donk... I have a Hornet which is a fine gun and in my opinion one of the best precharged guns on the market. It shares the same valving and barrel as the Super 10 and is accurate and powerful. I have fitted mine with a Parker Hale silencer and it is whisper quiet. The cocking and loading mechanism is easy to use and very good indeed. I could not say anything detremental about the gun as I love it. I had two until recently, my Brother bought me one as a belated 45th Birthday present but as it didnt get used I sold it. It was advertised on the forum and went for £225 with scope and silencer a real bargain... The Longbow is a good rifle for the money but springers are not as s flexible as the pre-charged and i assume if used for hunting mainly rabbit you would be considering a .22 calibre , and you would be best to purchase a gun which you can keep cocked or cock with the minimum of fuss. The Hornet is a perfect tool for this. With respect to Byhsu I think there are better springers on the market than the Longbow albeit slightly more expensive. I think you should decide first of all if you want a springer or a PCP and then narrow it down from there.. FM
kdubya
well Im not an expert on air rifles had an airsporter and a heanel (spelling) years ago then a hw77 which got lent out and seems to have dissapeared? found myself looking for a gun recently when a rabbit shooting oppertunity came up! found a webley raider (pcp) advertised locally, guy wanted £200 included scope silencer and best of all the ezy pump, so took a chance and snatched his hand off, can only say am totally impressed with this gun, it is accurate, reasonably quiet (have just ordered a logun silencer) as a replacement? but best of all it IS effective on rabbits, far better results than I could have hoped for as far as kill power is concerned, now I reckon should I be faced with the same need again no way would I consider a springer of course this is my (limited) opinion! cheers Keith
Fisherman Mike
Keith.. I also had a Raider single shot.. This too is a fine gun and often overlooked in favour of the Falcon or Air Arms Models. You will find the Logun silencer is greatly superior to the Webley model I assume yours is fitted with. One word of caution... When you unscrew the current silencer make sure the grub screw which secures the barrel is tight and that the barrel does not revolve in its housing and is a tight fit. 1 of 5
It shares the same valving and barrel as the Super 10 and is accurate and powerful. Sorry but the Hornet has a completely different regulator to the superten. The S10 reg is large and to be honest not overly reliable whereas the Hornet reg is small and efficient.
