Hi all yes it it a rather clumsy bit of gunsmithing . used to fit a barrel tightening tool into . although it looks appalling there is plenty of thickness in the heavy barrel and it is fine to shoot . Would that be a statement from the Proof House, or just the seller's opinion? Is it in writing, together with a photo and measurements of the indentation, or was it just a verbal statement? I am wondering what might happen if the OP ever wishes to sell this rifle.
wymberley
If it was supposed to be there, wouldn't it not have the same surface finish as the rest of the barrel - matt not bright and shiny - ie new.
