Rust

After going out shooting last night my gun got wet but by the time i got home i had forgotten i needed to dry it. It had been in the gunbag for 17hrs until i removed it. I have now cleaned the barrel and stock with oil then rubbed over the metal work with a hard cloth which removed the rust but this left little silver patches so i painted over them but it doesn't look quite right anymore. Is there anything more i can do?

Hi Sharp Shooter,

I think it is a good idea to go with the tape to prevent rust. I have certainly done that with my airgun. But don´t use any form for No-Mar gun tape (cloth tape) because they hold damp and then your gun will rust again. The only thing you should use of tape is Camoclad´s stuff - it can´t hold any damp, plus it also give some non-slip qualities and a guarantee that it will not damage the surface of your gun. After my opinion, the best camo tape on the market - nothing can beat it.

If you are lucky you can find it in UK, but else you have to get it from USA. I got my piece of Camoclad from SignSpecialist in USA.

Hi,

I don´t know if you can find something to waterproof it, maybe silicone or other products for shoes/walking boots.

But I am affraid that you got the wrong type of tape. But try it out and see how it works. If you don´t get the results you wanted - then turn to Camoclad. It is certainly better after my opinion.

Sharp.

I Cammoed up a gun once with realtree camo tape.... what a big mistake.

Looked a complete mess and when i tried to get it off... well it was stuck like s##t to a blanket.

Take my advice and dont bother.

A friend of mine degreased is gun, masked up the stock and forend and sprayed it up with grey, beige and olive green car paint. finished it off with a coat of matt lacquer and it looks bloody fantastic. You dont have to be particularly arty farty to do it just take a little time over the masking and apply the paint thinly.

Hi FM,

You should have tried the Camoclad instead. I can guarantee you it can be taken off again without any troubles. Again - the only camo tape you should go after on the market is Camoclad. The best of all camo tapes!
