tikkamark
After coming in there from lamping with a mate tonight and just thought id let you know to make sure that the screw that connects the base to the rings of the optilock is very tight as mine somehow came loose tonight and my mate shooting with my rifle missed a lovely big dog fox 3 times hes a good shot with a rifle so i knew it was not his fault for the miss so a quick check of the rifle comfirmed that the scope was rocking ever so slightly on the bases of the mounts :yp: the rifle was bang on accurate since i got it in feb and has clocked up well over 100 foxes i dont know if the gunshop lad that fitted them tightened them up fully but when i took the scope off tonight they were just a slight bit loose so i wound them back up as tight as i could hopefully its not to windy to rezero tomorrow Has this ever happened anyone else in the field or am i just jinxed

deadeye ive
I must admit ,How tight do you go ?.........As for myself I went as tight as I dare (PRETTY TIGHT )without stripping the threads or crushing the dovetail if that's possible and thus far no problems . JohnGalway
I had Optilocks on my last rifle and they never moved a bit as far as I can remember.
mry716
Normally one fits bases -firmly then adds rings and scope and the rings are alignable before tigtening. With these rings the problem is that when you fit bases to rings and tighten them then fit the scope to the rifle you need to adjust the angle of the rings to perfection so as not to stress the scope. That usually loosens the rings or at least leaves the ring retaining screw open to become loose with shooting vibrations. Not a good design. Dunkield
Never had this problem, been using mine for 5 years now, I think they are are great rings personally. I don't think it would matter which rings/bases you had if they aren't done up properly they will start to move in time.
tikkamark
I have seen various setups encounter this problem, and is the one reason I would NEVER suggest anyonre buys Optilocs The way there designed i must admit is not very good fair enough the ring that distributes all the clamping force evenly around the scope tube is a great idea but they should be totally solid in my opinion and do away with the screw that connects the ring to the base this is a spot that as what happened to me can come loose during shooting. On the pictanny rail the bases should line up with the rail perfectly as to not cause any stress to the scope tube so i cant see the point on having a joint in the mounts I managed to re-zero today and everything is back lined up and tight hopefully with no more problems
