Barrel states "steel proof", so its certainly fine to a point - I'm no expert on this, just putting this on in line with what other 1400's are priced at. I think we all know at present guns have to be a little underpriced to get any interest. I would appreciate full asking on it though I will admit

They are fabulous guns (Winchester never made a bad one ) and more than capable of being proofed for HP steel shot or simply using for such without the proofing.
Winchester had a marketing strategy of stamping their shotgun barrels ‘Winchester Proofed Steel’ , and sometimes ‘Winchester Superior Proofed Steel’. I think this is where the confusion arises.
If there is a HP steel shot proofed fleur delys stamp present, then of course this negates any confusion and would make the gun even more saleable.

I have just checked the gun interest having been piqued, and yes Scully you are quite right- and that is where the confusion come about. I probably should have realised that a gun of this age would be unlikely to be fleur de lys marked and i can't see any stamp, it is reading winchester proof steel, not vice versa. Been a few months since I looked at it

It’s an easy mistake to make, but shouldn’t detract from a sale, especially with such a practical stock.
I just thought you could have asked for quite a bit more if a HP stamp was present. They are fabulous guns.
I have the 1500 XTR which is mechanically identical, and even though I have a Benelli also, I won’t be parting with it. Great bits of kit.
Good luck with the sale.
