Adjustable comb

Recommended Posts

After using the Proxxon milling machine for a very short while, I came to the conclusion is was too expensive to run. 🙂 The mills kept clogging up and I broke about 10 in rapid order. They were only 3.0mm and flexed. I sold the Proxxon - got my money back, but had to write the cost of mills down to impatience, lack of skill / knowledge and stupidity.

I invested in this, which mills very nicely and is a whole lot more robust. The photo is not in my garage, but the shed of the lad I bought it off.

Brilliant.

Thanks for posting Gordon and well done for overcoming the encountered problems.

If only I had room for a bandsaw in my shed. Just didn’t listen when I was told ‘think of a shed size and double it’

Bit of an update, Shambam1962 was selling a bandsaw, for a very good price I might add, and I just had to make room in my shed by being very strict and throwing out everything that `might just come in useful one day` (I`m sure we all have plenty of those) and so bought one off him.

I am so pleased with it and now realise how versatile and useful they are and wondered how I ever got by without one.

Thanks again Shambam1962

Shambam1962 - I wish my garage was properly organised. I have the milling machine sat on a workmate, until I reorganise my bench. At the moment the bench has a top box on it, plus a bench grinder and a pillar drill. No room for the mill, nor the band saw, which is stuck in our big box trailer.

Under the covers on the left are four off road bikes. The floor is currently full of tools which won't fit in the three roll cabs, three top boxes, two centre boxes and 50 drawers of storage.

Thanks for sharing that with us Gordon. It`s made me feel a tad better about the state of my shed.:whistling:

My grandson is on holiday in the USA for another week. When he gets back we will be emptying anything not in drawers, putting it on the drive, clean the bench and then put everything back. Got two bikes to get rid of and we should have a bit more room to organise. 🙂

Brilliant, that’s great work 👍🏻

I keep thinking of doing this to my project gun…

I bought a Milbro Tracker off a work colleague about 2/3yrs back. It was way too long, so chopped 6” off the barrel 😂 and a further 1” off the stock 😂👍🏻

Much better. Stripped the stock and did that Tea bag/ steel wool in vinegar trick. Worked really well. Routed a finger groove in the forestock. I then really wanted to do this raised comb… but like a fool I had sold my dewalt  bandsaw 6mths earlier- to be fair it had sat covered up for 15yrs !! I decided to get rid, typically it would now be needed.

I’m not buying another 😂 I’ll rack my brains to see if I can think of a workaround.

Or use it as a excuse to buy the HW98 that comes with adjustable comb as standard.
