Alistair Carmichael MP spoke of the need for building consensus with rural communities at BASC’s rural reception at the Liberal Democrat Conference in Brighton this week. Mr Carmichael, the newly appointed chair of the Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Select Committee, told guests at the packed event that his party would be a significant rural voice in Westminster following the general election. https://basc.org.uk/efra-committee-chair-calls-for-close-engagement-with-basc-and-rural-communities/

Here is policy from 2024: https://basc.org.uk/election-2024-what-do-the-party-manifestoes-say-about-shooting/ And here is the full quote from The Rt. Hon. Alistair Carmichael MP, the newly appointed chair of the Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Select Committee, at BASC’s rural reception at the Liberal Democrat Conference in Brighton this week: “The Liberals are back as a political force in Britain’s rural communities and there is no time to waste to unpick some of the damage done previously. “I am excited to take on the EFRA Select Committee role in the House of Commons. We now need people of good intentions within rural communities to get behind our work. “We need to go on a journey together and I hope it should not be too difficult to build a consensus. “As a party, we build our success on rural Britain and we know one size does not fit all. Parliament needs to be responsive to rural communities.” Mr Carmichael also thanked BASC for the association’s support at conference over many years. “BASC has been loyal to the Liberals through the lean years and I am pleased to see the association continuing to support us now. “Personally, I know the Select Committee needs to have the best possible engagement with organisations such as BASC in the year ahead.”

I hope indeed their view has changed. However the 2024 Manifesto did still include a call for the banning of routine heather burning on peatlands. miki
`You mean, politicians change thier rhetoric to suit the mood in an attempt to attract more votes ? ..... and, BASC do the same to 'keep in' with the politicians. No, you can't mean that ? To be so against the doctors tick/medical form and then to actively support it and help 'set up a company' to help 1000's out of thier hard earned ? (ShootCert). To push for longer licences and then support (along with other associations) for an increase in the fee and understand that shorter length certificates would be appropriate. And to support the requirement for 'only those with a licence' can shoot game - and then talk of setup a nationwide, easy access, training program to cater for it, along with convincing politicians that the BASC should hold the licence to operate/administrate such a training scheme Aha, so that's why members are paying for BASC to be at the conference. All expenses is it Connor ? 👍 Edited September 22 by miki

Indeed it did, and that is why it's important that we brief MPs and their staffers on the truth, and continue to do so, including at the party conferences. https://basc.org.uk/the-truth-about-controlled-burning/
