Begara B14 handload recipes .308?

Recommended Posts

I have a B14 I don't shoot an awful lot so loads development is very slow.

I've found Factory Federal Match 175grain to work well. And through my own development 175grn Sierra match king hpbt with 36grns of N140 and Federal primers to be the best (3/4" groups @ 100m).

I've ran out of bullets so need to order some more, is it worth giving the Sierra 168's and 177's a go with the same charge and go from there? Ideally I'd want to stick with N140 since I already have it but any recipe recommendations would be appreciated, especially if I can see trends with it.

Of course I'll be checking all recommendations against manufacturers published handloading data before loading.

36grains of N140 is a very light charge for a 175 grain .308.

It is but I tried everything from 35 up to 41 and 36 performed best by far. I also had primers flattening at 41grains so went no further

Callum what made you decide on the 168-175 weight range ?  Are you shooting at 1k ? just being nosey.

It's what Begara recommended for their 308's on the website and the best factory ammo I've found was 175grn. I have tried 155's admittedly hunting rounds and they were awful.

If anyone has had success with lighter bullets I would be up for giving them a go.

I don't intend to shoot 1kwith it, realistically it will be 600 max I think

Surprised you cant get 155's to group, assuming its a 1-10, i don't have a 308 but do have 30.06 and its not bad at all with 150's ;) Twist rate should be good with 150 +, i just found shooting the lighter bullets more comfortable, i went 220grn and the difference was very noticeable. didn't buy any more

What do the 155's group like and is that home loads or factory?

All home loads. I shoot 150 SST now but had used 150 scenars that shot very well too. Both would clover leaf.

I also tried 165 HIT RWS they also grouped very well, maybe its one of those rifles that shoots anything well ? (but not 110grn Vmax)

But this is 30.06 not 308,
