Lollim2023
Hi all i joined this forum in March and thanks to the advice from members here ended up joining a full bore rifle club. I have been a member at the fullbore rifle club for 9 ish months now and I have been made a full member and I have received my NRA safe shooters card. I got signed up for full membership pretty quickly at the club as I came into the hobby having shot air rifles for years and I attended the range at least once a week over them 9 months. Since as long as I can remember I have always suffered from migraines.. I get them maybe 2-3 times a year but when I get them they come with intense visual distortion and can last upwards of an entire day. I’ve managed the condition pretty well over the years with OTC co-codamol and anti inflammatories. I did seek help from my GP many years ago. Work has been great at putting reasonable adjustments in place for me and letting me work from home ect when I have them but as I work for the Home Office they really want to complete an occupational health service referral. My main concern with them doing this is that OHS will contact my GP and I’m wondering how migraines could impact my FAC application? As I was planning to complete my FAC app in January. Does anyone have any experience with migraines and how the firearm departments view them on applications?
bruno22rf
I can only guess but I doubt that you have anything to worry about unless your Migraines cause side effects such as a mood swing or such like, I'm guessing you can feel when one is coming on so shooting would be the last thing that you would want to do. As for the OH referral I think your employer is doing exactly what they have to do but, in my experience, it is heavily loaded towards helping you and they may suggest dimmer lighting/computer screen brightness etc in an attempt to make things less likely to cause your ailment, in short they are on your side. Scully
I wouldn’t worry about it at all; I can’t think of one reason why it should affect your application. If they don’t affect your driving license I can’t see why they would affect your FAC, and while you’re having a migraine you won’t be in any fit state to either shoot or drive, so I can’t see it being an issue. cyberduck Posted Wednesday at 09:38 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 09:38 Unlikely. If getting a migraine a few times a year precludes you from an FAC, nobody would have one.
