Guest
I'm looking to buy a new gun in the not too distant future, but I'm unsure what I should really be looking for so I'm after some advice. Here's the criteria: I shoot clays (not competitively), and live game and want something that will do both for me. Min 30" M/C barrels O/U 12G Single trigger Looking to spend <£500 new or s/h So what make/model guns am I looking at? Cheers, Sam
Keith
Look for a secondhand Beretta S56E. It's a light 12g game gun. I have one and have used it for the last 9 months for both clays and game - pigeons, rabbits, pheasant (driven and rogh) and duck flighting. Very light, little recoil and a joy to use. I got mine for £650, but that's London/Middlesex prices and I'm sure you could find one for around £500. Only downside regarding your spec is that mine has fixed chokes - a quarter and three quarters and has a 28" barrel.
Guest
Has anyone got any experience of Bettinsoli guns? Litts have some good deals on them at the moment. I don't want a particularly flashy gun or a name for that matter, just something that will break clays, drop game and look half decent. Oly
Has anyone got any experience of Bettinsoli guns? IMO they feel cheap. I would either be looking at a s/h Berratta, Browning, Miroku etc (good names, well built - whichever fits you and your budget best) or a brand new Lanber. Get a Bettinsoli etc and you'll be losing money when you trade it in next year
Paul223
brand new Lanber. that would be my choice too, why the 30in barrels?
tulkyuk
why the 30in barrels? Why Not - i shoot with a 32" barreled gun all the time, for everything - be it from game to pigeon to clays
Oly
I shoot 32" o/u and 30" semi (so effectively 32"). It's just down to what fits
Guest
I shoot a 28" Midland O/U at the moment, and I'm just a bit wild with it, and several people have commented on how it looks short for me as I'm quite a big chap. I also shoot my Girlfriend's dad's 30" O/U Browning a fair bit, and although it is obviously a lot better gun to start with, i hit more targets and I feel it 'swings' better, although this could be down to the overall quality of the gun, i think the barrels are affecting my shooting. Are there any good websites where I could read up on the Lanber specs and prices? Cheers, Sam
Oly
This is the US site - you'll probably be looking at the Sporting http://www.lanberusa.com/ingles/index.htm
nav54
Beretta mate or possibly look at some of the lincoln range good guns and can be snapped for not much money.
Quickshot
Lanber all the way mate. I have had mine or two years now and it is brilliant! Think mine is 28" but im sure u can get them in 30"'s. Also they are multi chokes. Feels and looks good. I use it for clays and game. Just change the chokes for clays, otherwise its set up for game any other time. Cheers QS
caeser
I think all the advice about trying to get a Beretta or a Browning or even a Miroku is good sound advice. You can't go wrong with any of them, BUT there isn't that many around in that price bracket. If you're prepared to be patient then a good one will probably eventually come along. This is a good site to put the feelers out. I have , a few months ago, bought a new Franchi Harrier, which I have bought for pigeon shooting only. I must say I'm very impressed with it ,for the money. After all it is now part of the Beretta group, so the build quality is quite impressive. Worth a look I think. You can pick one of these up for about £500 , hardly used.
