myuserid
Ok so here it goes. I have a franchi harrier field 12g o/u which says on the barrels: Use 2" 3/4 or 3" shells which is 70mm or 76mm. The cartridges that have turned up today are 67mm which are 3mm short, I also have 50 65mm cartridges. Are these safe to fire and/or will they cause any damage? Thanks

But are you measuring the unfired shell? It is only UNSAFE to shoot LONGER shells in SHORTER chambers. Hope this helps! Regards, FC
myuserid
It says 67mm on the boxes. Just measured them and they are 55mm unfired, so 67mm must be when fired.
tulkyuk
Just use em, as said only catridges that are longer than specified on your gun can harm it You may find that they do not cycle in your gun though

myuserid
Its an Over & Under not a semi auto, or do you mean by "may not cycle" they may not eject? Thanks,

webber
Myuserid The cartridges that you have described should be fine in your over & under. webber
Markio
As everyone has said. I have used Gamebore clear pigeon that are 65mm carts in my 70mm chambered gun. They will be fine. Have fun.

Guest
Correct me if I'm wrong but 70mm chambered means the maximum cartridge length you can use in the gun, anything shorter is fine.
webber
Varminter You are NOT wrong. Shorter cartridges in longer chambers are fine on over and under and side by sides. However some semi autos may not cycle shorter cartridges and cause a minor jam, so it is usually best to ensure that you buy 70mm cartridges if you have a semi. Although some semis will seemingly shoot almost anything, they are generally the exception to the rule. webber
myuserid
The thing that I found confusing is that it says on the side of the barrels: Use 2" 3/4 or 3" shells only. I contacted GMK as well and they say I shouldn’t have a problem. Just need to find some time and go shooting, all over the country at the moment
