I bought it new (52 plate) which is 03 I think.

if my memory is right its june to dec 02

the reason they charge so much is this they will charge around .3 hr to fit it covers standing at parts getting the part numbers and checking they have it in stock.then ringing the customer to authorise the job then the technician goes to get the part and then has to go fit it.most wipers i fitted when i worked for mazda and peugeot cost around £25 then theres the vat added to the total price ripoff i know but thats how they brake the prices down there all like this id never take my car to a dealer but they have ya buy the balls when it comes to faulty electrics and when it need special attention

The Volvo had to go in for a 72,000 mile service an its second MOT on Friday. I've always been keen to ensure that its been serviced by an approved Volvo dealer so I took it to the dealer I got it from. I new it was going to be a little more expensive but £450 was a joke. Not to mention they charged £78 for a simple exhaust mount that had apparently broken.

I got a second phone call whilst they were doing the MOT and asked if I wanted two bulbs replaced (side light & number plate) which I thought was good of them but then mentioned the rear wiper blade was split. I asked how much a new blade was going to cost and they quoted £68 for supply and fitting!!! I nearly fell off my chair. Don't get me wrong, I don' my paying a premium for an approved service but £68 for a small rear wiper blade is just obscene.

I've just been down the road to visit a car parts shop that I used to frequent in my earlier years and they fitted a replacement blade for just .... wait for it ....... £2!!! A total saving of £66.

Does this sound better Axe?

A trip to my garage in Upstreet where you would then be driven into Canterbury for a days shopping with your good lady.

Car then serviced and MOT'd at a very competitive price.

Mid to late afternoon you would be collected from a agreed rendevous point, pay your bill, and drive home with a fully serviced car and fresh MOT.

That sounds very agreeable indeed, with offers like that your gonna have a busy schedule.

Seriously though I do realise that garages like yourself and main dealers have to make money but, how much would you charge for a replacment rear wiper on my Volvo? Being a purpose made moulded arm specifically by volvo for this car , I cant beleive they would replace the whole arm when just the blade itself needs replacing.

We had a similar problem with the Vauxhall dealers in Aylesbury.

We owned a 2001 Omega 2.2 estate and bought it in 2003.

We had a 1 year warrenty on it and everything was fine until it was 2 months out of the warrenty.

The light on the dash that says there is and electrical fault came on and the car went into "limp home mode"

So as the husband of a friend of Calams was the parts manager for this garage, so we booked it in to be checked out, with

the promise of discounted parts if needed.

They took it in and checked it out on the Tech2 system and said the ECU had died and a new one was £700 odd fitted. :good:

With no car and two kids living in the sticks we duelly paid up and got the car back.

I did have a feeling something wasnt right so I asked for the old ECU to be given back, which they did.

Two weeks later the same light came on and we went back to the same garage.

The ECU had gone again so they reset it this time and the car seemed fine, no charge except for the diagnostics £75

However I went with her and asked when we got it back why didnt they do this with the first ECU, and they said it couldnt be

reset as it was an old version.

I thought if that is the case then there is a lot of oney to be made here buy selling cars with ECU's that will not update if

there is a problem.

Then another few weeks went past and the light came on again so this time I took it to a private garage in Milton Keynes that

a shooting friend of ours own's.

He put it on his Diagnostic machine and it said the lamber sensors had died, now knowing the trouble we had had with it he

then took it to another garage and again the same diagnosis was given. So Tom thought ok lets see what Vauxhall say, so off

it went to the local dealer in MK for a Tech 2 test, guess what the ECU was dead.

He bought it back fitted two new lamber sensors, serviced it, new brake pads and discs all round and it cost us £265.

I believe if there is a dealer involved in these things that can make a quick buck they will.

The dealership staff are Tech 2 trained and that is it, no common sense just Tech 2 Tech 2, brainwashed.

I will always do my own fitting but if it is a Techy fault its off to Tom now.

Calam shortly after all this hassle wrote it off by not giving a telegraph pole enough "lead"

So now we have a Zafira on lease hire through her work.

And that has been a nightmare as well, but to long to put on here. Yet

Tony

52 plate = sept 2002 until april 2003.

Purchased in March 2003, on a 52 :good:

So looks like I did miss out on the new law.
