tulkyuk
Be careful boys - i used one that belonged to Magman and you can see things out quite far But could only pick up rabbits eyes(lite em up) at about 40yrds or so - they are a lot better if you add an external IR
Dave-G
Gen 1 is supposedly good for about 1000 hours unless you have been exposing it to very bright lights. Expect to spot night eyes out to 40 yards or so - or watch what a mate does if he is taking a night vision enabled shot. It's main attribute is to see better while not being seen so easily. If you're looking for doggies doo da's that don't suffer if it has had a light shone on it then consider a Yukon Digital ranger, used like a binocular. Someone has one on here for £280 with batteries and charger, And I have just bought one this week which I "thought" would work as an add-on but it does'nt score well in that department. I also have a Yukon mobile player/recorder to go with it - and 12 AA's and charger for £350 if anyone is interested. It's the next to the last item in the link below - plus it has the nimh's and charger click here Here's a picture of the player that straps to the Ranger
Ferretboy111
Ive got one, havent used it as much as id like to, but when i have i can see rabbits clearly at 100yrds, and can still see them at 200yrds. Ive put a magnification lense on it, so its 5x mag, think it cost like £20 extra. Also have a IR adapter to go onto my Tracer max pro, without that i wouldnt be able to see very far atal. Get those couple of addons and its brilliant. Alex

Dave-G
The Ranger uses the less visible 940nm output (darker) than most others as the digital type of nv is more receptive to it. I could barely see a tiny faint glow at 50 yards - and that was with the benefit of knowing where it was to find it. I have no doubt it would relect a fox's eyes at maybe 300 yards with regognition at 150~200 - without the IR which can reduce the range seen sometimes as a result of camera's seeing things differently than the human eye. Once you have located the eyes turn off the IR - you probably wont need it to follow it's progress. I dont have the knowledge to explain that bit though The lcd screen (like a small mobile one in black and white) is very bright and many users put a filter in front of it. I have some red hanging about and it works great - in addition our prey don't see the red reflection on our faces.
Ferretboy111
Ive seen a deer through mine, at 100yrds, it was as bright as anything, but then i do have the advantage of the added extra's, which i must add are a MUST if you want to be happy with the outfit, i was fascinated, but disappointed with the NV without the mag and IR adaptions. I will be using it when the weather turns better one evening from a high seat, have shot many bunnies using it this way. Alex
