Beretta nickle plate flaking

I bought a second hand 391 Teknys sporting included with the sale was the Beratta 10 year extended warranty. Which GMK transfered over to me. the gun was 2 years old. After 3 months i noticed that the nickel coating was blistering and starting to peel. Also the extra wood top coat was flaking i would expect localized flaking due to knocks and bangs during use but it was like lacquer peeling of an old door and was spreading.

I have seen on an American forum that the Nickel flaking seems to be common on early models with some people saying manufacturing problems were to blame and others saying some types of bore solvent attacking the nickel finish were to blame it appears it was not only the 391 that was affected it was any Beretta with nickel finish. I was wondering if any forum Beretta owners had come across this problem.

Outcome

I contacted GMK with the warranty number who advised me to send the gun to them and they would get one of their gunsmiths to ***** the problem and see what could be done. They had it for 2 weeks and informed me they were going to replace everything apart from my barrel. So basically a new gun. They have also transfered the warranty for the full 10 years. So a bit of a result.

The extended warranty is worth taking out if you buy a Beretta brand new and should add to the resale value as it is transferable to the new owner.

spoken to them at gmk spoke to a chap in the workshop and he checkes the age of the gun which i allready know as its stamped under the butt pad he said you get a 3 year warrenty the 10 year is an option and as its worn it will be classed as wear and tear and wont be covered as its 5yo im not bothered he said they could send it back to berretta but it may take about 9 months to get it done and it would cost me about 200 quid so no thanks it can stay as it is
