yeh, ive just got my first SLR are thinking about it for ages, now the hunt for cheap OIS lenses starts as the kit lense and the 90-300 i got as well are ok but nothing special.

As to the cmos sensors, i am told by my canon slr rep, that all cmos sensors are produced by canon as they own the only cmos producing machine, if this is true or not is another matter, but i like the idea lol.

The nikons are nice, i just wish there was a better range of non nikon lenses for them, of course putting the motor in a stupid place dosent help. Rumour has it tamron are going to start supporting nikon lenses now though.

My first ever time with the slr produced the following:

Still kicking myself today for fogetting to put the iso back to 100 :)

Stuart - you not tempted to save some money and just go for the TZ2 - if you look here (I did a comparison on dpreview between the two http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_po...3&show=all) there isn't much between them and you may well save a bundle - that said I don't know the prices and even if they still make the TZ2.

Oly, I am not sure if the TZ2 is still arround, the prices on that link are only about a tenner apart, although I guess there may be savings elsewhere.

I am not interested in lots of megabytes, just quality, and I reckoned the newer one may have some refinements, as some of the reviews I have read said the processing of the lumixs' is a little aggresive (whatever that means :) ) The TZ3 price is dropping by the day which makes me wonder if a the TZ4 is arround the corner.

Interesting enough the bloke I was talking to had a Nikon D3 with a very decent lens on, by all accounts the best part of 5 grands worth all up, and he only uses 6 megs for general shooting.

I know what you mean - my best mate's other half is a professional photographer - she's uses a trio of D20's and upgrades every few years - so it looks like I may upgrade to a very cheap D20 next year!! :)

an extra £100 or so could get you the nikon d40 with kit lense, it would walk all over the fuji.

same size, but a proper SLR with the ability to expand if you wish.

Or a Canon 350D. When buying SLR's (ONLY SLR's - NOT compacts/sealed unit cameras!!) don't worry too much about buying a decent used one through reputable dealers like http://www.lcegroup.co.uk/index_group.php as they often come with warrentees and have been serviced etc before being sold. It's surprising how many people simply upgrade for very little need/benefit - so then you can get a lot more camera for your money.

I will prob be selling my 9600 shortly for the reasons I said earlier and not because anything is wrong with the quality of it, I will replace it with a Nikon D40x + a decent lens along the lines of 80 mm - 200 mm or a Canon EOS 350D again with similar spec lens.

The only thing I have noted about the Fuji is that there may have been a batch of the 9600's made with faulty auto focus, as some people just can not get them to focus right, mine has always been fine..
