Advice needed on Brass

Recommended Posts

Hi all, thanks for all the previous advice, i have not yet started to handload but will be in the next couple of weeks. the advice i require is that i have been given some 7.62 empty cases and some one has told me that it cannot be reloaded as it has 2 holes in the primers and it should have only 1. i have checked the cartridges and they do have the 2 holes. so is this guy correct in saying i should throw them away.

many thanks Verminer

Ps, if anyone has any used 308 brass surplus to requirement could i please have some.

Verminer ,

you have berdan primed cases . Thease cases can be reloaded but are a bit of a pain .you would need a special de,capping tool ,or use hydro pressue to pop them out ,a real pain .stick to boxer primed cases ,thease are the cases with the single flash hole . Good luck Harnser .

Nick is right i use lapua in my .243 .222 and .223 they are expensive but good thick brass and can be used lot more than other makes.

If anything where .223 is concerned it's actually thinner and a few grains lighter than Federal ,sako and winchester ,but boy can you work up to some hot loads using it ,showing no signs of pressure as well . :good:

the best you can do regarding brass is to buy the brass, in my opinion Lapua is the best, if expensive, and in my case i have brass that i have reloaded in excess of a dozen times with no signs of failure yet

above all else keep the brass and all other components consistant ie only use one make of brass, one make and type of primer, bullet head, powder etc etc. find out what you can scource locally at the best price and stick with that combination
