is there a right time to start asking for permission?

Hi Naymo,

 

Welcome to the forum.

 

Please fill in your profile, some folks won't talk to people from never-never land.

 

The best time to ask for permission is when the woodies are actually hammering those crops on a particular field.

 

If you ask nicely to go down there "for the day" to "keep them off", you will rarely be refused.

 

A lot of guys make the mistake of tapping up farmers when there's no current pigeon problem, the standard answer will be, "Sorry, the shooting's all taken", but if you do as described above, you've got a good chance.

 

It goes without saying that you should leave only the odd footprint and a few white feathers on the field, and always drop the farmer a bottle of Scotch on your first foray, that always works well.
