new to the flock
John, Is it every night he does this? Is there a chance that something is visiting the nights that he is doing this? NTTF

new to the flock
John, I would very quietly get up and have a look around the yard and if possible past the fence next time it happens. I think you may find something there. I know from experiance that usually something sets them off. Four times last month my 4 dogs in crates in the back room, all fired up at once...at 2 am  of course. I looked around and found nothing, so what I did the next night was shut them all in except the terrier. There was no noise that night but there was a dead rat the next morning and the dogs have been quiet since. NTTF
stokie
Its possible NTTF is on the right track My lab is 4 years old and also sleeps in the kitchen. The only time she makes a noise at night is when we have a fox in the garden
