berettaman1
you can buy a .22 smoothbore or a 9m/m shotgun (as long as the barrel length is 24inches or more),but legally you can not fire solid projectiles through it as it then becomes a rifle, 12 bore unchoked shotguns can shoot rifled slugs but again you would require a vairiation on your ticket to purchase such ammo. flight-path
If it is smoothbore it is not a rifle.I does not have rifiling.

Big_Sam
AFAIK A smoothbore gun with barrel of at least 24" is a 'shotgun'. If it is muzzleloading then it is generally thought to be ok to fire lead ball, but dont quote me on that.
flight-path
Where can you buy these guns in the uk? Do you need a special certificate to purchase black powder? Cheers

loopy bunny blaster
no, the legal minimum is something like 5 pieces of shot, you cannot fire a solid ball from a smoothbore shotgun, or its classed as a slug i think.

Those are muzzleloaders, but ".50 caliber" tells me that they are rifles, not smoothbores. Jim
