the last engineer
this post started off in the felt or plastic topic ,but i got a little carried away with the story but i feel very strongly about this subject so i stopped there and here goes nothing i hope not to bore you all . http://www.strathconashootingrange.ca/ we have been shooting the strathcona range since 1978 the comonwealth games. over the last 26 years a lot of lead has hit the floor ,the city would like to develop the site into  1/ a sports complex with outdoor feilds ,soccer, baseball, football. or 2/ a housing estate . B) but with all the lead the cost of reclamation will exceed $4,000,000 before they break ground for anything . we have been lobying the city for a stay of execution but alas the mighty housing dollar seems to be winning, we hope to be at least relocated so as to continue the further enjoyment of all related shooting sports here,ie shotgun ,handgun ,rifle (air and center fire) archery is also an option. i do ask all of you to visit the web site to appreciate the range and its facilitys the site address is at the top also if i may add to and not bore you guys to death , we (the city of edmonton) are hosting the 2005 masters games, within are core sports of Clay Target ,asa skeet ,asa trap, international skeet and trap Full Bore Pistol and Air Pistol Small Bore and Air Rifle you can visit the site here to see further info http://www.2005worldmasters.com/bcm/wmgame...9B?OpenDocument i know its a lot to ask but if anyone is interested in coming to participate and support the sports i would appreciate it and do my utmost to make it an enjoyable stay for you i,e ill even put guys up in my place and my friends plenty of room. (games are open to anyone of 30 years and up ) it would be a great show of support for the sports and the club im told shooters aare coming from all over the world ,the more the better . anyway thanks for your time and patience in reading this post and i hope the future of our sport remains good and strong for all of us and the juniors to come . good shooting to you all, Martin Usher

Cranfield
Martin, that is quite a facility,a very purpose built layout. I'm amazed that with all the room in Canada, someone wants your bit. Don't you have a version of the American NRA, to fight your corner ? Lets hope with the high profile of the 2005 Masters Games being held there next year, someone will have a change of heart. the last engineer
thanks cranfield,it is a superb facility ,the pictures realy dont do it justice though, we regulary hold the canadian nationals shotgun/handgun ,all the olympian shooters have shot or have trained here. we have looked st the possibility of afiliating ourselfs to other clubs in the area ie the province of alberta, that way we can show paper memberships to increase the club numbers hopefully this will deter the powers that be. and also a number of people from the nsa nra are involved in the negotiating. as you said its a large pc of realaty ,mile for mile england fits inside alberta i think 4 times and thats only 1 of 10 provs and 3 teritories huuuuuuuuge lot of land. all the best martin
