winter rape

hi folk

when i spoke to farmer the other day he siad he was putting winter rape in over the bank holiday weekend.when he does would this b a good time to shoot the field(s).

what i mean is do the pigeons tend to hit the field when just planted(excuse the terminolgy)or should i wait a few weeks for the rape to start showing?

When the fields are first drilled they can attract the pigeons.

However in recent years, I have noticed that deep drilling methods used by some Farmers, means the birds are not on the fields for long.

It will be worth checking though.

 

When the crop starts sprouting, it is attractive to pigeons.

 

With the continued sun and rain we are having, look out for sproutings on rape stubble.

If the new sproutings are thick enough, pigeons will feed on them. :huh:
