lock&load
upgrading scope on .222 so its just for foxing! the best you can afford is prob best answer something with a 30mm tube for extra light gather and if you buy from states at the mo you can get a fantastic price on a leupold i got a vx111 8.5x25x50 lr with fine duplex for my 243, uk equal of £400 try buying that here for that. i also have a schmitt presission hunter on my .223 with mill dot and that cost a £1000 but i rate the leupold more pref something with side parallax Edited March 8, 2008 by lock&load
Poacher
I'd say go for the 8x56 schmidt, for foxing. No messing around with mag perfectly clear and good under the lamp. Its a firm favorite.

Its a firm favorite. i tried a sworovski 8x56 30mm and found it to be very limiting at night great day scope for deer but limited at night only my experiance to many people by fixed and sell them becuse they dont meet their needs fixed is good for day shooting or bunnies but i would only use a good variable for fox at night. SidneyG
Loopy 4 3.5-10x40 tactical. Light gathering is unreal for a 40mm lens, everyone whos looked through it has been impressed.
deadeye ive
upgrading scope on .222 so its just for foxing! From experience I have compared a leupold 6.5 x 20 x 40 vari x III ,Schmidt 8 x 56 ,25mm tube and a schmidt 8 x 56 ,30mm tube has I have all three and happen to still be blessed (at the moment ) with 20/20 vision . For what you want go for a fixed reticle 8 x 56 which I happen to find better at night than in the day and the Leup a cracking daylight scope No differnce whatsoever in the light gathering catagory concerning the schmidts and their different tube size's ..Oh and get a No 7 reticle
