tiercel
I find with my GWP that he'd rather have a look around before going into brambles That is because the dog has a brain. But better than that, he even knows how to use it....... No point in thrashing your way through brambles if there is nothing there. The dog goes round the brambles air scenting to see if there is anything at home, If there is, in he goes, if not then.... no point in going into the brambles. The only people who have problems with that way of working are people who either, do not trust their dogs or have only worked Springers. Who will enter cover if there is anything at home or not. One of the reasons why I am not a Springer fan. Retrieving is natural with my dog, I don't know about others though I have yet to see a GWP that cannot retrieve as good as a Lab. deeksofdoom
Sundowner, Whats your reason for getting the dog to sit when she comes out of the water, will it stop her dropping the dummy? Glad you like the video, I'm only an amateur actor ya know!! Your getting pretty good at them yourself, you'll have to post a clip of your fellah retrieving on the beach in Benidorm

al4x
Vegetta Pointers are HPR's sp they don't have quite as strong a retrieving instinct as say a lab or a springer. You have to work on it far more and like yours some just won't. Mine does but isn't anywhere near as obsessive about it as your average springer. I'm yet to start on game but things are looking promising. Very intelligent dogs as said sometimes a little too intelligent
