Blackpowder
Working today on an extension to a rural property in a quiet area of the Borders. Few people about and woodpigeon going back and forth from trees to gardens. However in the rafters of the property one pair of woodies are busy building a nest. How many other forum members havce encountered indoor nesting wood pigeon. Incidently as yet there are no windows or doors on the building. Blackpowder. Blackpowder
Hello Funky, That's interesting quite a rare occurance I would say. Back to the above the windows and doors are now in situ at the above site but a pigeon still came inside today, caught and released by me minus a few tail feathers. Boy did it not half go when I flung it in the air. Blackpowder
M ROBSON
We are seeing more and more Woodies nesting in straw barns in our area. There will be the usual flock of Ferals but the odd Woodie tucked away in a quiet corner. Mark.
THEINVISIBLESCARECROW
I've seen them roost / nest under road bridges. Last on a day trip to Rhyl I saw the remains of a nest on the bridge & it was quite low down.
bob300w
Woodpigeons will commonly nest in old buildings if it is in a quiet place, farm out-buildings especially. Feral pigeons nesting under road bridges is also common. There is a small colony of woodpigeons that has been nesting for several years, on the remains of a old sea wall on the foreshore in my area. The wall is about 2 feet high, of earth, and the nests are a few inches above the high tide mark. This I do find puzzling, as I have never previously known woodies to nest on earth banks.
