mjhono
If the gun is a private sale then it can be sent direct to you using royal mail etc. If you have bought the gun from a dealer then he must send it to a local RFD. The exception to this is if the gun was made before 1939 then the dealer can also send it direct.

clayman
Loop holes, loop holes. Is the new VCR weird or what. A dealer cannot send you a gun even by a secure carrier. It has to go via another RFD - but a private sale can send the gun in the post. So, if the dealer sells the gun to his neighbor, the neighbor can now legally post it to anyone in the country as a private sale. And, even weirder; if a person in another country orders and pays for an airgun, it can be delivered to anyone in the UK even by a gun shop. So, if your brother in Canada buys online, he can request the dealer deliver the gun to you, and he can do so - but if you live in the UK, you yourself can't order and pay for the gun, and have it delivered. There seem to be some gaping holes for abuse of the controls here, as there seem to be at least two easy ways round the regulations for remote purchase and delivery.
