taz24
At what point is a gun not be a gun? The barrel and trigger mech have serial numbers on them. If a barrel is swapped does it need recording. Can you sell a barrel or the mech to someone without a cert. What part of the gun needs the certificate? A stock and trigger mech without a barrel cannot be fired but would a certificate be required? Cheers taz
bob300w
Component parts need to be on a FAC, not just guns; 13.70 The term component part may be held to include (i) the barrel, chamber, cylinder, (ii) frame, body or receiver, (iii) breech, block, bolt or other mechanism for containing the charge at the rear of the chamber (iv), any other part of the firearm upon which the pressure caused by firing the weapon impinges directly. Magazines, sights and furniture are not considered component parts. The 9th Report of the Firearms Consultative Committee provides additional information on this subject. 13.69 Component parts of firearms are also subject to certificate control, and may be authorised if a shooter needs replacement or interchangeable parts. Spare cylinders for muzzle-loading revolvers are not used in national target shooting disciplines and should not normally be authorised. It should be noted, however, that some cased sets, both antique and modern reproductions, will contain a spare cylinder, or cylinders, and these may be properly included on certificate for both possession and use. Hunter
What is a gun? A weapon that can launch a projectile at dangerous speeds (of which may cause injury or death) being either a self propelled projectile or projectile given velocity by means of a propellant: compressed gases produced by manual compression or the volatility or an explosive matiriel. IMO any part related to the firing mechanism, chamber, cartidge or barrel is gun related and therefore requires a valid certifiate to be held.. A smooth barrel (pipe) does not require a licence. A barrel with rifle grooves and chamber cut will require a licence to be held in order to purchase, own, or sell. (buyer must have a licence too stating permision to posses that paticular callibre barrel. See bob300w's post for a legal perspective of what counts as a firearm.
