General/Game licensing

Recommended Posts

I just noticed the post on Scottish General License amendments and was wondering if I needed a license to shoot vermin here in England?

I have heard murmurs of these licences before but I have never really set aside much time to enquire further.

Any ideas people?

No, you don't need to obtain one.

From the BASC site;

General licences for certain bird species are issued by relevant statutory agencies in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. These cover a wide variety of bird management scenarios such as the shooting and trapping of crows and the retention of bird tissue samples in laboratories. General licences are issued to allow certain management activities involving bird species to occur that would otherwise require users to apply for individual licences.

By definition you do not need to apply for a general licence but you are required by law to abide by the terms and conditions of each licence. Thus, it is extremely important to be aware of the terms and conditions relevant to your situation

Have a look at the BASC site, it covers it all in detail.

Cheers fellas!

Ever noticed there are a hell of a lot of SHOCKINGLY useless rules written up then never implemented?

How tedious!

It's all in aid of keeping all of those Euro MP's in a job. The whole of the firearms laws could do with re-writing, but would you trust those muppets to do it? :lol:???
