Hi All.

im new on here and have just had the firearms inspection officer round here yesturday. she says she's 99% sure im gonna get one. ;)

so now the hard part of choosing my bunnie bashers.

i was thinking a ruger 10/22 in synthetic and have found one with a short 12 3/4 barrel. iv been reading the other post's and saw that over 12" was ok but is this a bit extreme? im gonna put a moderator on it though so that will make up a bit of lost length.

also was thinking of the cz KM452 Rifles Varmint in .17hmr and was wondering which barrel would be best, the 16" or the 20"? :D

any ideas?

cheers

your 12 3/4" rimfire will be fine and a 16" barrel on a HMR is ideal ;)

i used to own a HMR with a 15" barrel & on windless summer evenings, 200yrd + bunnies were not a problem

Totally agree. My 1022 has a 12 1/2" barrel and is seriously accurate I also had the barrel on my old hmr chopped from 22" to 15" and suffered no loss of accuracy.

thanks lucky trigger and tulkyuk. just what i wanted to hear really. bit of bad news though, just been to see the land owner and he's changed his mind about letting me shoot a .22 cause of ricochets. so iv gotta try and find some more land sharpish or my ticket will only grant me a .17hmr. not the end of the world.

You will still suffer ricochets with the .17HMR and as the muzzle velocity is much higher id imagine alot more of them too!

Its the fact that .22 bullets are moving at a slow ish speed that makes them prone to ricochet. The frangible nature of the bullet and its speed makes ricochet a rarity with the HMR. I`ve only known ricochets with the 20gn hollowpoints, not the balistic tips and that was not often.

im out in the fens out bottisham/ lode way. plenty of rabbits out here. i think im just gonna get the 17 for starters cause they are a cracking gun then inabit when iv got more land sorted out go for a variation and try and get one and a 8shot semiauto 12g and maybe a fac air rifle for a laugh as well!

where about are you?

I have a 16" CZ452 HMR and love it. The bullets hardly ever ricochet. To be honest I only bought my .22lr because I could have a semi auto for club use. The ammo is really cheap and keeps the cost of target shooting down.

For bunny bashing a HMR is great. You don't fire that many rounds and you can just point and fire at anything between 50 and 120 yards! Much better than the .22 :good:
