Si-Bore
Hey guys What is the best product to use to fill a small chip in a dark walnut stock (approx size - 1mm x 2mm)? Also I want to fill a scratch approx 2mm deep. Thanks Si
InGen
if you want it done right you should take it ti a gunsmith who will sort it not a thing to try on a good gun.
Si-Bore
The gun is not 'mint' enough to worry about in that sense and I was thinking about stripping and re-finishing the stock anyway as it has a few bumps and scratches on. Just don't know much about which fillers are good enough to look nice? Si
magman
Ok if your going to refinish he stock then keep some sanding dust to mix with a bit of glue or resin to fill in the chips it will at least be the same colour as the original wood Edited April 20, 2008 by magman

Thanks. I can't believe how hard it is to find a specialist stock repair product. There is plenty of filler but it only goes as far as grain (not scratches or chips). sbald
If you are going to refinish why not just sand the marks out if they are only 2mm you wont notice this when re-finished. if not any wood filler matching the wood colour will do as it will take the colour of any finish you use, or you can get a product for furniture finishing called grain filler which enhaces the figuring but can also enhance the appearance of some scratches if they are deep. el-chimbo
if your gonna rework the stock, try lifting the marks out, damp rag and a iron trick works when I do my stocks..
