kris
how soon do rabbits start breeding after they are born? my shoot seems to have more rabbits on than usual? thanks lads
Ferret Master
That's because it's Spring and the breeding season of the rabbit population is at maximum breeding output doing what bunnies do best at the moment and they will continue to do so throughout the warmer months. Also the milder Winters mean that the rabbits are sometimes breeding all year round. The young are becoming alot more obvious as they are staying above ground more in the warm Spring sunshine and they will not be as streetwise as older rabbits so they will be more visible. kdubya
does start to "get active" at about 5 months a good doe will knock out 3 to 7 young every 30 days and will be usually pregnant 24 hours after giving birth ( if this was evident in human it would mean clearing the table in the maternity ward) jan to june is peak time but as we all know they do seem to go on and on, ( luckily) cheers KW

Baldrick
KW, the estimate in Farmers Weekly some months back was that a breeding pair of rabbits could produce 95 offspring per year, and that a doe was ready to breed at just 3 months old. kdubya
365 days per year and 30 days for gestation and a MAX of 7 gives 85 and thats if she breeds all year, still not bad mind, cheers KW
russuk
That's some going, even compared to a Gipton girl. I've noticed the rabbits earlier this year, and more of them, either that or my early onset dementia is getting worse.
