Taking out a novice pigeon shooter .

Recommended Posts

Iwas thinking the other night after reading the posts on p.w. that there seems to be lots of novice pigeon shooters who do not have farms to shoot on .It must be really fraustrating wanting to have a go and wanting to learn how to decoy pigeons and no wear to do it . So wouldnt it be possible for some of us more lucky shooters who have lots of farms to shoot on to offer some novices shooters the opportunity to spend a weekend decoying with an experianced shooter ,maybe nationwide . I dont know how a scheme could be run . any views on this one . Please no p.m.s requesting shooting . Harnser .

It is not just the novice shooters in this situation. I feel many of us on the forum are in a position where we do not have the time to adequately cover a farmers need for vermin control through lack of time.

To properly cover pigeon control time is needed to establish flight lines, check where birds are feeding, etc. If you have only at best half a day available a week on a regular basis, whilst it gives time to get out with the clays to keep skills honed, it is not enough time to follow a reasonable pigeon control regeme for the odd few days when you can spare the time.

Personally, as a youngster and up until my late 20's when family and housing commitment "bit", I was a regular wildfowler and did quite a lot of pigeon control, but then lack of funds, work promotion, and change of location (pre internet days), put a stop to all shooting until recently.

The odd day or two out with the decoys as an "extra gun" over winter greens, stubble, or roost shooting would be welcome but making the contacts, even in this day and age isn't the easiest, and I feel sure there are others here in the same boat.
