Mikecommo
Hey guys. I'm an old school airgunner who has come full circle after many yrs away from plinking. After all this time I've once again bought the very same rifle I owned all those yrs ago...the HW97K! I now need a good scope and think a 3=9x40 should do the job, but would love the advice of those in the know. I will be using the gun for general garden fun and intend to zero at around 35 metres given that paper targets will be my main prey. I used to hunt but I'm not sure I have it in me to kill anymore! But you never know. Budget wise I was thinking of spending around £100 plus extra for mounts. Things seem to have moved on a lot since I used to shoot....scopes with cross hairs that light up....what the hell !!! So please offer your advice chaps??? peacey
Can't go wrong with a Hawke scope. 3-9x40 Hawke Sport about 40 quid and the Nite-Eye HD about 80 quid. Anymore really for targets and you're wasting your money. My mate has a HW97k and has the Nite-Eye on it and its really good. Mikecommo
Thanks guys I really am grateful for you comments! I called a good few different gun shops today to seek advice. The varmont 2, (spelling?) was said to be good. 4-12x44 If memory serves. money wise it was around £120 to my door with mounts. I don't mind spending this kind of money for a really good quality item, specially if I do move on to pest control again! I guess I'm thinking into the future also, given that I'm sure I'll take the PCP route down the line so a good scope to carry over might prove a good investment now! Keep your thoughts coming please chaps??? I like the idea of mil-dot also....any thoughts? Many thanks, Mike
T0MMYT
I have a Hawke Sport HD 3-9x50 and i would really reccomend it, for the price (around £60-70) i think it is a quality scope. i have the Mil-Dot version and really rate Mil-dot Scopes highly, especially for hunting. hope this helps
njc110381
I'd suggest you get a Simmons myself. I have a Hawke on my air rifle now, and it really falls short of the Leupold VX1 that I have on my .17hmr. However, the Simmons I had on my old air rifle was about the same price as the Hawke and not far off the quality of the Leupold. Whatever you choose you'll not go wrong for an air rifle, but for the best optical clarity in your budget I'd definately go for a Simmons Edited to say the Bushnells in the £100ish range are also very good, I've just put a mil dot 3-9x40 on my .22lr which cost me about £120, and I'm really pleased with it. Mikecommo
Well I bit the bullet and made a choice...... after visiting a local gun shop and trying out a good few different scopes I bought a brand I have never heard of.... Sabre. Specs are : 4.5-14X50, and it has mil-dot which also light up. It cost £120 including mounts and the chap who sold it to me said I could bring it back and exchange it for another one if I don't get on with it. I spent an hr or so playing around with it in my garden. It's been zeroed to 20 metres so far. I tried a few different brands of pellets......Wasp, BSA, and some AA. I can't remember which version of each off the top of my head but the AA proved to be the most accurate! The scope seems to be nice and clear and so far I'm happy enough with my choice. I was a little concerned that I have never heard of Sabre, the chap in the shop told me that they are made by Nikko only under a different name! I have no idea how true that is but I would love to know if you guys know anything of the brand.....good or bad??? I'll be trying the gun at longer ranges this week and will report back! WeihrauchPower
Try RWS hobby, they are lighter and give you a bit more power and a flatter trajectory, just avoid them for long range when it's a bit blowy. They are a wadcutter shape so cut perfect clean holes everytime, ideal for your needs. I've used them hunting and they always perform well.
