My Squabs in the Garden

I'm a bit concerned about my two squabs that are on the nest in the garden here.

I haven't seen Mum or Dad anywhere near the nest for a couple of days and I'm worried if they may have abandoned them?? Usually you could see one of them perched on the roof before they dropped back down into the nest but there's been very little activity for the past couple of days.

They are getting pretty big and fill up the nest now so I'm wondering would mum and dad still be feeding them during the daytime and roosting nearby at night time? They look pretty healthy but I dont wanna see them perish in this cold weather.

And before you ask, Yes I must be going "soft" :)

Will, Have your Clients Shot the parents ?

I suspect that if you take a torch at night you will see the Parents or at least one on the nest site.

If this is not the case I suggest they are not coming back and the squabs would be in danger of being orphaned. Its unusual for pigeons to abandon squabs as they are such attentive parents.

If you fear for their survival take em in they should be of an age where they can be hand reared. Seek some advice from the local Pigeon fanciers.

LOL! NO! I dont set clients out in our back garden!!

I went out last night with the torch and it was just the squabs there. I even searched the rest of the copper beech hedge and no sign of mum or dad in the vicinity.

I think I might take them in and give them some grub as my gut feeling is that mum and dad have done the off and left them.

So thats One pet racing pigeon and two pet woodies from now on by the looks of it! :)

Milky ready break or rice pudding is pretty good stuff... If you can afford Channel Islands milk so much the better... :) but dont go putting your prices up.

Dont be tempted to give them any white bread they cant really digest it properly and until they get some grit in their gut hard grains also.

Let us know.. If you want to put up some pictures on the Forum and suggest names for adoption I am sure we can raise some capital for their upkeep !

Best keep it secret from the Animal rights organisations and their supporters or it will be all over the Sun and Mirror

get out there with the gun and wait for them to fly :D  :)

yeah do the best thing, keep them down.. get a whole line of guns in your back garden in a circle around the tree.. have them there 24/7 and then when you see 1 of the squabs starting to fly, shout FIRE AT WILL.. then some clever sod like me would say. "WHO'S WILL?".
