bob300w
wot dose the lr mean?thanks It's origin dates back to 1887, it was called 22 long Rifle to distinguish it from 22 short and 22 long, that were in use at the time. It has now been abbreviated to 22 lr. The short was introduced in 1857, 22 long in 1871 and lr in 1887. Others that you may come across are 22BB cap, (orignated 1845) originally powered by just the primer and firing a ball, and 22CB cap, (1888) originally with one and a half grains of black powder and a 29grain bullet.
