I have seen a few of these guns around and they are relatively cheap, would love to one day own one, although you'd probally have to get Red Deer up in Scotland on your ticket or something. <_<

Anyways I was just wondering how available ammo for them is these days. The 303 isnt a great popularity round (or is it ?)

Wouldnt think that too many places were producing them.

Would appreciate input on these great guns, anyone got one ? Are they any good ? (I should think so)

What are you allowed to use them on and how hard are they to put on your ticket ?

How much is a box of ammo ? where can you get it ?

Alot of questions I know, just very interested. Keen to learn haha, cheers for any help guys

PLEASE DONT DERAIL THE TOPIC <_<

The Enfield rifle is still in use today as a target rifle and FMJ ammunition isn't that hard to come by. Although it is a little pricey and from what I have heard not all that good.

I do know people who reload and get good results.

If you want it for deer then you would have to do some research into whether expanding bullets are available. I am sure that they are.

The enfield action is a superb long range piece of kit and has been used to great success out to 1200 yards in target competitions.

Remington is still imported in 303, in 174g metal cased (£118/100), and 180g SP core-lokt bullets (£173/100). S & B is imported in 150g SP ((£100/100), and 180g FMJ £97/100).

Contact Edgar Brothers and ask the name of your nearest stockist

As Martin says, there are some incredibly accurate L/E 303's out there, that would give modern rifles a run for their money.

You say expesive but with the 1 shot you use to kill the deer ( if deer is the purpose of having the rifle) its only cost you £1.50 tops to bag your deer. You would use that driving to your permision and back even being local.

£1.50 a shot is only expensive if your target shooting with it. . . . . . . . . . . or thats how i would look at it !

FMJ ammo can be bought from the NRA at Bisley. They list two different rounds on their price list both are 180gr Sellier and Bellot and one is £35-00 per 100 and the other is £60-00 per 100.

NRA Prices

I believe one of the issues woth the .303 ammo now is consistency, which is why Target Rifle converted to 7.62 all those years ago.

My Dad had a No.4 converted to 7.62 many years ago and used it to great effect.

A pound a shot isn't expensive, even for target shooting if you can garantee the accuracy.

Modern 7.62 NATO issue is 45p a shot, pucker stuff is more like 70p.

Personally I would love an Enfield but it would be like so much else that only gets used very occasionally.

Under what conditions do you think you culd get one ? Prob need to have alot of experience with shooting on Reds and maybe some shooting in other countries ? <_< Oh well, something to look forward to in the future <_<

It's a full-bore rifle, no different to any other. If you have good reason, and an FAC, you can have one.
