jamie g
hi lads my dad has just got his shotgun ticket though the post today and we have a nice 12 bore a friend of ours is selling us its a semi auto winchester so thats sorted. but what i wanted to ask is he wants a shotgun for when we go ferreting so i was thinking what would be the best a 20 bore or a 28 bore ? and could anyone say which ones are good for the money. of course he doesnt want to spend big bucks as its for vermin control only so mite get knocked about. around £300 to £350 new or secondhand what i would like to no is what sort of chokes can you get for 20 to 28 bore rifles as he wants something with a bit of spread for ferrting work and something that dont mash the rabbits up to much. a over and under or a semi auto is what he is looking for and for ferreting work i guess you would use shorter barrel so its more compact to swing for a shot say 26 inch would that be fine ? thanks lads for any help atb jamie

Trussman
Baikal do an affordable over and under in 20 and 28. If you want something smarter, you could get a Lincoln. Or you could get a Investarm. Personally, I would go for the Baikal Regards Trussman Edited July 3, 2008 by Trussman
Mattw
I would go 12 bore, and use a lighter cartridge, I understand that 20 and 28 bore carts are quite alot more expesive than 12 so it could be a false economy in the end. Lloyd90
AI id say use the 12 bore. Just use different carts. Is your semi a multi choke ? If so you can change it up for ferreting
THEINVISIBLESCARECROW
As you'r possibly closer use a more open choke to avoid damage, my s/auto has external choke tubes so I just leave them off for open cylender. Lighter cart's will help, big shot & less pellets allso. A semi is handy 'cos you have the 3 shot option for a mad flush with plenty of time to re load when it goes quiet straight after.
