tinbum71
I know the Baikal is probably better built, but the Phantom is cheaper, shorter, lighter and imo better looking. The only thing that would swing it toward the Baikal is the noise. Is one better than the other?
sitsinhedges
Best bet is a good used Pedretti Hushpower with 28" total barrel length, superior build quality and you wont lose much if you sell it on. I paid £200 for mine and it's a cracker. ATB Andy
vole
Saddlery and gunroom have a Norica .410 hushpower. Looks better built than the french gun.Would expect any of them with a full length moderator to be pretty quiet. My Pedretti is ace even with normal Eley Fourlongs. Not gonna bother with subsonics. i find the Eley 3in magnums pretty loud though.
JRDS
Eleys are subsonic.
vole
I thought the Fourlongs were about 1350 fps? They are much quieter than the magnums anyway. You got it yet Timbum?
el-chimbo
Baikal all the way! i've been umm'in and arrr'in over one for a while now, went and picked one up today! Amazing little total, really can't get over how quiet it really is! and I used 14g 2 1/2'' normal shells.. I aint gonna bother buyin the branded 'subsonic' carts.. its already quieter than all my spring airguns.. kinda like hitting a baseball with a alloy bat, but not as loud! matt.. tinbum71
Well, I ordered the G12 today. At only £259 delivered it is a bargain. I have spoken to someone who owns one and think it's the best one for me. It performs as well as the Baikal noisewise, and it's much shorter and more pointable. Fingers crossed I'll get it Thursday or Friday and will be straight on here to let you know what it's like.
vole
Cheers TB. They look very handy. Never used a bolt action. Be very interested in how it goes for when my Pedretti wears out.
tinbum71
Got the gun this afternoon, all I can say is wow! It looked and felt a bit iffy, but some realtree tape around the moderator, a dab or two of grease and a bit of fettling with emery cloth later, it shoots really well. The bolt was hardly usable 'cos it was so stiff, and the cocking cam wasn't as smooth as it could've been, but the trigger was pretty good straight off. Good crisp let off with no creep. I fired off a few, well several, in the paddock just to get the hang, and then went down to a permission just over the road. 11 Bunnies and a woodyat up to 30 yds no probs with Lyavale 2 1/2" 14g no 5's. It got quieter with every shot as well, so looking forward to tomorrow already.

The G12 is just a single shot, so reload takes the same as with a single barrel. Having said that, I had no "runners" tonight, and only had to neck one rabbit! Thats seriously good in my experience. Even my 12g doesn't stone 'em everytime. I need to get myself a shotmaker to bring down the cost of reloading, or get a second job as I'm gonna get thru loads of carts with this! vole
My mistake . Thought the bolt action meant 3 shots. I did fancy getting one from Swillington Guns but my Pedretti came along cheap.
