Oly
OK, so my search at the CLA ended in vain - I couldn't find any stand offering custom fit filter ear plugs (i.e. Emtec) for less than £60. Was hoping to get special show deals down to ~£40, but saw very few show deals in general at the CLA . Still a great event and cracking weather, lets just hope the ticket prices stays at that level for the next decade!! So, the hunt is still on, where can I find the cheapest custom fit ear plugs? I presume that there is very little difference between them all so it just comes down to price. Cheers, Oly.
MJN
Ask at your local hearing aid center ! £40 - £50 mark.
Dunkield
I don't think they are all the same Oly, although I personally believe there is a cartel that keeps the price more or less fixed at what it is Anyways, my mate bought a pair at the West Country GF last year and then lost one, went back this year (to another company) who slagged off the other companies product. So they made him a new set. I asked how they compared and he says they are awful, thet may be down to being fitted properly I don't know but he hates them and is kicking himself for loosing the first one. The obvious question will be 'which are two companies' I am afraid I don't know the answer to that and I doubt he will either.
nickb
Found the same problem, no one would budge on price, ended up spending 70 quid on a set.......just hope they are as good as the bloke says?? Great day out though, but how much was beer!!!
Oly
I think there may well be some price comparison/fixing going on with regard to a various shooting related kit out there. I was disappointed that the only deal I heard all day was one guy getting 75p of a £100+ order from reloading solutions!! Other than that there are only so many cheap gun slips a man needs!!! Maybe more folk will vote with their feet soon, but it's difficult as it is a great show!! One of the hearing protection guys did tell me their price, but then said that they would remain competitive if I found a better price...but no doubt he knew they were all pretty much the same price! JonnyR
Hi, Having just bought a pair, here are my thoughts; Find someone who really knows what they are doing in terms of making the moulds - this is vital regardless of who makes the plugs, they are onl ever going to be as good as the moulds. Think hard about getting ones with valves, they cost a bit more but at least you can have a conversation without having to take them out repeatedly. Look at the material they are made from - the company I used now use a silicon-coated material as the old 'spongy' material broke down over time. PS I think mine are great, especially on warm days but they will never give you the protection of muffs. PM me if you want to know who I used. cheers, Jonny.
