gixer1
As the title says, I am looking for a 1/2 x 28 UNEF (5mm spigot) T8 mod for my 243 weatherby vangaurd.. Can someone tell me what the "common" thread is on a 243? Thanks Garry.
Dunkield
1/2" UNF (20 tpi) is the most common thread, but there are few others.
gixer1
I thought that but what is the "e" for in UNEF????
Dunkield
See if I can type this before Bob. E = Extra (fine) Knock yourself out with information here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Thread_Standard
bob300w
That was quick, I'll give you that, as stuart says 1/2 x 20 UNF was the most common until large bore moderators came into fashion. Now the most common are the 1/2"UNF x 20 TPI and 5/8" UNF x 18TPI, although others are in use, i.e; UNF 1/2, 9/16, 5/8 UNEF 1/2, 9/16, 5/8 Metric 14 x 1, 15 x 1, 17 x 1, 18 x 1 With spigot Metric 15 x 1, 17 x
gixer1
so my 1/2" x 28 is an oddball.......?
CharlieT
Unusual for a C/F Sak make their r/f mod in in both threads though so it must be fairly common on rimfires/airguns. I believe it is the standard (UNEF) in the states.
gixer1
That would probably be correct as it seems to be a more popular rifle in the USA....
Dunkield
It wouldn't be the end of the world to get that thread lopped off and an 1/2" UNF thread put in it's place - if you have trouble getting the mod you want that is. You can buy T8's in 1/2" UNEF by the way

In this case, we allow a larger suppressor exit aperture for some rifle calibres (6.5 mm, for instance would use 8.5 mm aperture). Other imperial threads including 9/16"x24 tpi and 3/4"x16 tpi UNEF are available to order or sometimes from stock. tulkyuk
They will cut it in any thread you ask for I had a rifle & T8 with a 5/8 UNEF thread on - Sako 75 .243 ( now belongs to Bazooka Joe)
gixer1
I wonder why no-one has come up with a muzzle crossover to change the thread from x to x.... my local RFD has a selection of S/H mods but none that fit my Weatherby... And the cost of recutting the barrel isn't worth it as i can buy the new mod with the correct thread for around the same price as a S/H mod + recut....
