A friend has a cocker bitch which he'd like to breed with my dog, problem is, it's like the blind, leading the blind. The bitch is just over three years old, and dispite observations, this is the first time he's noticed her coming into season.

Question is, how long will she be in season, and whats the the window for putting my dog over his?

First sign of swelling was the day before yesterday, and first sign of blood was yesterday. any other info would also be great

regards

Thanks NTTF, very detailed information as ever, once i show this to my friend, i'm sure the signs he's seen will soon become clear and he'll have more of an idea what stage his bitch his at.

One other thing, is it at all possible that this could be the first time the dog has come into season. He's never noticed before dispite looking for the signs and shes just over three years old,

regards kieran

Up to 2 years for a first season is not uncommon, would have thought 3 is a bit old for a first but a very light first may have passed unnoticed earlier and she could be on a 12 month cycle. Good luck, maiden bitch and untested stud... get the kleenex out for her ears :good:
