David BASC
Anyone who goes shooting should be insured – full stop! If you don’t have much cash then of course thee CCC or others at the low cost end of the market – go for it. If you are a bit more flush and what moiré than just insurance, but the support of an organization AND to put something back into shooting and the future of shooting, then join one of the other organisations – loads to choose from, it is up to you but for goodness sake get insured! apache
I pays my money to BASC happily. Cumbria shootings, who was defending our sport? Only BASC. It's all well and good saving a few quid, but if there's no sport to be had and all guns are banned you'll be pleased you saved £40/50? clayman
Goodness, two years old and the threads still gaining strength. Well, the update is that c³ is running well. We have cover for 2000 members and have had one claim in the period since inception. This is a third party claim for a trespassing dog walker who had his dog peppered by a c³ insured shooter with permission for the land who collected the out of sight dog when taking a vermin shot. The dog owner was also armed and dispatched his dog without seeking veterinary advice. A claim for a four figure value has been made for the value of the dog. c³ legal defence has stepped in as our underwriters deny the claim. This means the third party or his insurers, if any, need to sue the c³ member, and that would be defended. If the final outcome was against our member, the insurance would pay out. The present situation is the claimant has gone strangely quiet, possibly they have sought legal advice, and it has been suggested they would have a difficult time proving both the claimed dog value and the negligence of the c³ member. We are now with new underwriters, Liberty Syndicate at Lloyds for the first £2m of cover and an excess policy with Zurich for cover to total £10m on TP. It is correct the c³ does not provide support to members views and problems other than via its own members forum, nor does it have direct a political agenda to support the country side lobby from members. How-ever, c³ does provide indirect support. Our sister business, the ####.co.uk is a trade member of BASC, CPSA and GTA. We support young shots in BASC, provide discounts to members, and promote both BASC and CPSA actively. C³ directors and shareholders are actively involve in voluntary support of shooting organistations through their county and regional activities. If you can afford BASC, C-A, CPSA , SACS etc and their services and lobby are correct for you - then these organisations will provide those services. Country Cover Card seeks to fill a gap. There are 100,000's of uninsured country sports participators out there - some through ignorance of the need for insurance, some just hard-up. If we can get more people to be responsible and be insured, then we are doing a service to the Country Community. And some-day in the future we may have enough members and funds to be able to provide modest direct support to our Country Community. David BASC
I am not going to knock the cheap deals, but please remember that the insurance is only a VERY small part of why you should be a member of a shooting organisation - remember the main thrust of being a member is to protect your shooting rights - how much of oyur £28 will go towards protecting shooting?
