Tarka
dont need training mate. Aslong as the breeding is right should all be in the dogs blood. Just encourage it and thats all it will need. Good age to start killing rats now. My fell had her first rat at 5 months. Just take her out where you know there are rats and it will kill when its ready. As said before rabbits are a NO if you wanna use it for earth work! You will look a right *** if you have to dig 8ft for a rabbit!
lewis
Sorry guys, why do you need to keep your terrier away from rabbits if you want it to be a ratter?
Ferret Master
I'm guessing so it doesn't go to ground on a rabbit which you then have to dig for. FM
Paul in North Lincs.
last thing you want is for it to go to ground at every opportunity......and you end up having to dig it...to find it baying at a nest half grown bunny for 3 hours.....LOL Some terrier lads introduce their pups to life mice at 12 weeks old........ ...............you cant teach prey drive........most terriers have it and come into their own in time. If you are contemplating using for ground work.......let it take rats, and work aong side experiebced dogs. Persoanlly I wouldn teven enter it to ground until it was at leaset 18 months old - a nip as a pup - could easily turn into a spewer.
