Axe
Came across this whilst searching out the Aguila website; http://www.varminter.com/2008/5mmrrm.html An interesting round, has anyone tried it in the past?
Axe
Its an old round, I don't think Aguila have made it to bring it back, more to service all those that have it. I can't see that it would have a place now, with the .22WMR and .17HMR now on the scene. I am just interested to learn of what people thought of it when it was about. To see if there was any specific reason why Remington gave up on it.
Magus69
My Late Uncle a keeper from quite a way back had one. As I remember from being a kid it carried substantially more distance than a standard .22 rim and shot a lot flatter than the .22 win mag. We used it on long range bunnies and crows on the deck and found it to be exceptional for that. I think it just fell out of favour at the time and as a result faded into obscurity similar to what seems to be happening to the .22 hornet right now, apart from myself I only know one other shooter of the hornet though I know many who have owned one in the past and moved onto other calibres. So I don't think it will be many more years before manufacturers start winding up production of the hornet cartridge and that will end up going the same way. Mike... Axe
Thanks Mike, I guess with the hornet it shouldn't be too hard to reload for it. I see from the various links I have dug up, that CZ have mentioned putting the 5mm RRM into production on the 452 and varmint. Though this is not official and no dates have been given. With the HMR producing a much flatter and more accurate round, I wonder if it will really take off. should be interesting though, all the same. Axe
Id hate for anyone to ever say my round was less accurate than a 17HMR You'll have to explain that one i'm afraid.
Axe
Its not exactly an accuracy benchmark is it. Works fine for me, maybe your doing something wrong.

Alycidon
Excellent reading. If I was looking for a small case 17/20 caliber I would personally want something I can reload. maybe .20AH or .17AH. But it seems that .17HMR seems to cover most bases, the report is one on teh best I have seen. A
