airssassin
The main advantage with FAC air rifles is that you can take a greater variety of shots. For example, depending on the power and your quarry, you can go for heart and lung shots. Far fewer limitations with crows and pigeons as you can punch through their wings. You don't actually get much more effective range with FAC but because you effectively have a larger target it is easier to shoot further. Some people talk about having shot hares and other larger mamals with FAC air but it is generally condidered to be un-sporting even though it is possible. In the USA they have an amazing market for high powered air rifles, many with very large calibres (up to .50!). These rifles can be used on very large game like deer, wild boar, and larger beasts but if you watch the videos of this type of hunting although the animal dies it is not very humane as the animal will normally keep going for hundreds of yards and needs to be tracked. In my opinion, it is best to use a high powered centre-fire rifle on large game. Likewise, if you want to shoot anything larger than the animals on the general licence, get an appropriate powered rifle (rimfire or more powerful). BSA Shaun
FAC also gives you the option of stepping up a calibre to .25. I believe that there are several shooters who use this calibre on Hares and read in a magazine about a guy who went to the scottish highlands hunting hare on .20 FAC But Stick to vermin please, if you want to shoot duck then get a shotty. smsguitarist
Surely you get a better range advantage with FAC air rifles? I was of the opinion that you can get good groupings at 50yards and if good enough shoot out towards 70 yards. I know it's Mr Rimmy territory but if possible why not? Axe
Range is measured by your ability to group your shots consistently. I don't have much experience with FAC airguns but I know several people who happily shoot out to 60yards with no problems.
