myzeneye
im just about to buy a pcp rifle... is filling with a stirrup pump o.k or just verging on rediculas ? id imagine it takes a fair few strokes of the pump to get anywhere near full pressure if you can get there at all that is.... if im wrong, please tell me cos i dont really have the cash for a bottle, my nearest shop is too far away to get filled up there regularly...so it looks like a pump is my only option for now... MM
get the rifle, and then you can top up when you need it with the pump. , get the right fiting, and if your with me, ill fill yours with my NEW tank
Hoplofile
I use an FX (Logun/RWS etc) pump and do not struggle to fill to 3000psi. I find it takes 5-10 minutes of STEADY pumping to fill my gun from completely empty. For occaisional hunting use (30 shots or so) a couple of minutes top up is all you will need. You don't need to be superman (I certainly ain't :look: ) let your legs and your weight do the work. Pause briefly at the top and bottom of each stroke for maximum efficiency. If you get tired/bored go and have a cuppa then come back to it. If you are of reasonable size and fitness you will be fine Paul

myzeneye
just a thought, and im ready for the abuse, as i know its a daft question .... but why cant i use an air line like the one at my brothers garage to fill it up im guessing its cos the air line probably wont go that high in pressure ? right but if it did and i had an appropriate attachment, could it be done its just compressed air right ? i know the line probably wont go anywhere near enough pressure, but just for my own minds sake, in theory, could you do it ? magman
Even if it would the moisture would rust the rifle cylinder Not a good idea Ps, if you need a refill i have a 15 ltr 300 bar bottle here
ShropshireJohn
where's the best place to buy a pump from guys? I probably won't use the gun enough to warrant buying a bottle then traveling 80 odd miles to fill it up thanks

myzeneye
Even if it would the moisture would rust the rifle cylinder Not a good idea Ps, if you need a refill i have a 15 ltr 300 bar bottle here cheers guys .yeah have taken tomorrow off work to try and get it sorted , will have to find a garage that will do the work for the aa warranty , for 6. 99 a month they cover upto 500 quid with a max of 5 claims a year , i rekon thats a good deal , especially as i dont have a fookin clue with cars lol rob, the air lines have water traps and filters on them..... i understand that when you compress air, you squeeze the water out of it, but that would be removed by the filters first... i know its a daft idea, it was just a thought that niggled ... imagine if you could fill up at the tire air supply at asda !!! ha ha ha.... the second balmy thought i had was..... r kid also has oxy/accetalyne bottles at work ...... could the o2 bootle be used if i had the right hose anyway, your bootle rob, are you offering it for sale or just to fill me up when i come up to have a shoot with you....nudge nudge...wink..wink.... get me new gun thurs/fri and will be looking for a night out..... Hoplofile
the second balmy thought i had was..... r kid also has oxy/accetalyne bottles at work ...... could the o2 bootle be used if i had the right hose Please UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES use pure oxygen (or acetylene) in your PCP. You run a very high risk of explosion. People have lost their lives doing this sort of thing. Take a look >HERE< The word for what you were thinking there is barmy! save the balm for the stumps of your missing fingers. Rant over - but seriously you could put a real downer on your day if you mess with this stuff. Take care!

Take care! cheers for the concern, but seriously, this isnt something id ever do... it was just my curious mind trying to work out the "why nots"....inevitably,ill buy a divers bottle like everyone else, but i just wondered if there was another way...when ive worked out all he why nots like i said, ill be left no doubt with the single option of the divers bottle... obviously, only a fool would use acetylene... i was more looking at the oxygen side... what pressure do i fill my gun up to ? 170 bar?
